I don't strictly mind additional difficulty via less monarch points, but you should be able to change the way you play strategically to counteract it. The only good thing is that it makes ducats a bit more valuable, which is nice because it's too easy to have practically infinite ducats. I went colonial with Sweden and got nothing for it, having to wait 40 years for it to spread from its original spawning point. For example, it originally seemed that Colonialism institution would be influenced by, you know, colonialism. The only influence you have is where you start and conquer. You have almost zero influence over anything with institutions contrary to what they said, and instead of the originally promised 20% max penalty (for everything but fuedalism) the 50% penalty is ridiculous, especially for ROTW where something like Japan is going to end up with +200% penalty instead of +60% by the 1600s-1700s. I was incredibly hyped for them, but they didn't live up to expectations at all.
It had so much potential, and I was excited for it, but it's been a massive letdown after playing a full campaign with Sweden.
